What is Amoebiasis ?

Amoebiasis is a infectious disease caused by the parasite Entamoeba histolytica. Amoebiasis is a parasitic infection of the large intestine. It is a difficult infection to treat with allopathic drugs, & repeated courses of specific medication are needed. Amoebiasis can affect anyone, however, the disease mostly occurs in young to middle aged adults.

Amoebiasis is characterised by non specific diarrhoea with loose, semi formed, foul smelling stools, or dysentery with mucous, traces of blood & small quantities of stools passed repeatedly. Often there is an ineffectual urge to defecate again & again, with very little stool actually being passed. There is much flatulence with abdominal cramps. In severe cases, the liver & other organs may get affected, causing specific conditions related to organ, e.g., hepatitis, cysts, abscess, etc. The most common symptoms of amoebiasis are diarrhoea (which may contain blood), stomach cramps & fever.

How the Amoebiasis spread.

Amoebiasis occurs when Entamoeba histolytica parasites are taken in by mouth & the most common way this happens is by person-to-person spread. Amoebiasis can also be spread by:

• Drinking contaminated water .
• Eating contaminated raw vegetables & fruit.
• Unprotected oral-anal sexual contact.

Natural Home Remedies For the Treatment of Amoebiasis.

• Remove the kernal from the dried seeds of the bael fruit, & also the mango seed kernal. Take equal quantities of these two kernels. A teaspoonful of each should be ground together. One fourth of the mixture should be taken with a cup of rice gruel once a day for 3- 4 days. Helps to cure the amoebiasis.
• A once a week intake of ripe bael sherbat keeps the bowels in a healthy condition.
• Roast unripe bael fruit on a open fire & remove its pulp. This should be eaten with a little jaggery or a sugar, a teaspoonful daily is especially beneficial for blood diarrhoea with mucus.
• Take the jam made with the semi ripe or unripe bael fruit - a teaspoonful on a empty stomach every morning keeps the digestive system healthy. Helps in curing the amoebiasis.

How amoebiasis can be prevented ?

• Everyone should wash their hands thoroughly with soap & hot running water for at least ten seconds before preparing food & eating.
• Wash your hands after smoking & going to the toilet.
• Foods which are best to avoid are uncooked foods, particularly vegetables & fruit, which cannot be peeled before eating.
